Classical interpretations

Seeing one of the Companions in fine states in a dream is a sign of good belief about them and of following their Sunna.

Seeing them in a dream signifies affection, brotherhood, help and goodwill, deliverance from enmity and jealousy, the departure of enmities in hearts, and love filling hearts. If a person sees the Companions turn toward him in a dream, it signifies having charitable buildings such as mosques, masjids, and madrasas built, and the purity of his lineage and tribe.

Seeing those choice Companions is also a sign of wealth. For they took part in many conquests and obtained spoils. And the finest spoil is piety. Again, seeing the Companions signifies repentance, cutting one's attachment to everything other than Allah Most High, and goodness and blessing in their path. For example, seeing his holiness Umar in a dream signifies a long life, virtue, speaking the truth everywhere, good works and good deeds, and turning from falsehood to reach the Truth. Likewise, seeing his holiness Uthman is a sign of asceticism, piety, modesty and good manners, goodness and virtue.

Seeing his holiness Uthman look at one smiling and show one favour signifies happiness in this world and the hereafter.

Seeing his holiness Abu Bakr, the head of the Companions and the companion of the Messenger of Allah in the cave, with a smiling face and in a cheerful state is a sign of happiness and peace in this world and the hereafter.

Ibn Sirin said: Seeing his holiness Abu Bakr with a smiling face, cheerful and glad, signifies relief and gladness, blessing and prosperity, recovery from illness, and knowledge and spiritual understanding. His holiness Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing his holinesses Hasan and Husayn in a dream signifies attaching oneself to some great personages and attaining goodness and blessing, knowledge and wisdom from them.

Seeing one of them give one something or speak to one with grace and favour signifies much wealth and blessing, prosperity and comfort, and grace and kindness to the poor. For they were ahead of everyone in grace and kindness.

Seeing in a dream his holiness Fatima, the dear daughter of the Prophet of Prophets and the mistress of the women of Paradise, signifies every kind of goodness and blessing, virtue, lofty and fine character, and success in all affairs. Again, seeing her happy and smiling is a sign of relief and gladness, happiness and safety.

Seeing her sad and sorrowful is interpreted as sorrow and grief.

Seeing any of the pure wives of our master the Noble Messenger signifies good works and good deeds, chastity and virtue, staying away from the forbidden and the false, family happiness, and blessed provision.

Seeing any of the Companions of the Prophet signifies goodness, mercy, blessing, and favor. It may also signify strength in religion, completeness of faith, and sincerity in deeds.
