Obtaining spoils signifies comfort, joy, provision, and attainment of one's desire.

Ibn Sirin distinguishes spoils taken from unbelievers as good and spoils taken from Muslims as loss. Muslim armies returning with enemy spoils signifies abundance and low prices, while the reverse signifies grief, hardship, and scarcity. Setting aside one fifth of the spoils signifies constancy in the five daily prayers.
