Classical interpretations

Wearing wooden clogs signifies a journey by land.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said that seeing or wearing clogs is interpreted in seven ways: a wife; a male servant; a female servant; strength; benefit; wealth; and travel. Sometimes wearing clogs and walking in them signifies blessing and joy. It is also said that removing one's clogs signifies safety, security, and attainment of a high position. Walking in fur-lined clogs signifies travel for worship and obedience to God, such as Hajj or jihad.

Seeing cotton on the clogs signifies a literate, religious, and righteous wife.

Seeing wooden clogs in a dream is interpreted as a wife, servant, nursemaid, friend, partner, or journey. Removing the clogs from one's feet signifies appointment to an official post. Walking resolutely in clogs signifies performing the Hajj, because pilgrims wear such footwear during Hajj. At times clogs are interpreted as a brother.

Seeing linen clogs signifies a modest woman who recites the Qur'an.

Seeing the strap of one's clogs break signifies abandoning a journey and remaining resident.

Seeing oneself wear a new, marked or decorated, matching and well-made pair of clogs whose straps have not yet been fitted signifies marriage to a virgin. Al-Nabulsi said that if the clogs seen in a dream are made of silver, they signify an aggressive woman; if made of wood, a woman who stirs up trouble; if made of cowhide, a non-Arab woman; if made of horsehide, an Arab woman; and if made from the hide of a predatory or wild animal, the oppressive wives of rulers.

Seeing one's shoes fall into water or become lost signifies the death of one's wife. If the lost shoes are found or recovered from the water, the wife will come close to death but then recover from illness and regain health.
