Classical interpretations

Driving a stake into a wall signifies affection for a person of rank and distinction. Driving a stake into a house is interpreted as becoming attached to a woman. A stake may also signify the head of state or someone similar.

Seeing an old man drive a stake or nail into the dreamer's back signifies that from the dreamer's descendants there will arise a king or a scholar unique in his age. If the stake is wooden and the person driving it into the dreamer's back is a young man, it signifies that a child will be born to him who will become his enemy.

Seeing an iron stake signifies wealth and strength. Sometimes, because a stake is pointed and sharp, it signifies pain, and because of its hardness it signifies sorrow, grief, and anxiety.

Seeing twelve stakes driven from one's sexual organ while standing in the mihrab of a mosque signifies the birth of twelve children, all of whom will become imams. If an unmarried man sees himself drive a stake into a wall or the ground, it signifies marriage; if he is married, it signifies that his wife will become pregnant.

Seeing oneself upon a stake signifies receiving strength from a learned and virtuous person.
