Classical interpretations

Paradise is the abode of happiness that exalted Allah has prepared for His believing servants, and a work of His mercy. For this reason, seeing Paradise in a dream is interpreted as goodness and good tidings. If a person sees Paradise clearly in a dream, it signifies that he will attain everything he desires and wishes.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise is a sign of safety and joy in both worlds. If a person sees the treasurer of Paradise in a dream, it signifies joy and blessing, a clean life as long as he lives, and being safe from calamities.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing oneself enter Paradise in a dream is interpreted in this way: a) a mosque, b) a gathering of remembrance, c) a market, d) the worship of the pilgrimage, e) jihad in the way of Allah, f) knowledge and righteous deeds. Sometimes seeing oneself enter Paradise also signifies doing fine and accepted deeds that will be the means of entering Paradise. If a man sees himself drink of the milk, the drink and wine, or the waters of Paradise, it signifies knowledge, wisdom, blessing, sound belief, and practising the exalted Sunna. Again, seeing oneself eat of the fruits of Paradise is a sign that one will be provided for as much as the fruit one eats. If a man is told in his dream "May you enter Paradise," this dream signifies for that person an inheritance, knowledge, and guidance. Sometimes entering Paradise is also a sign of deliverance from sorrow and grief. If a person sees himself enter Paradise together with his wife, it signifies that he will live in harmony with his wife in the world.

Seeing oneself enter one of the mansions of Paradise signifies attaining a high rank, doing deeds that are a source of pride, ease and wealth, and a good outcome. Again, entering Paradise and drinking from its rivers, eating its fruits, sitting in the shade of its trees, and seeing its houris and youths is a sign of knowledge, guidance, provision, descendants, a long life, and dying a martyr at the last breath.

Seeing one of the gates of Paradise close upon one is a sign that one of one's parents will die. For Paradise is earned through the approval of one's mother and father. Again, seeing all the gates of Paradise close upon one and not open signifies rebelling against one's mother and father and their not being pleased with one.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise by whichever gate one wishes is a sign that one's mother and father are pleased with one. It has also been said: The appointed time and death of a person who sees himself enter Paradise in a dream is near, and the place he will go to has been shown to him.

Seeing oneself throw Paradise into Hell signifies selling a vineyard and garden or something else. As is known, a vineyard and garden are greenery, and Paradise too is green. Parting with the green has this result.

Seeing oneself drink from the water of Kawthar signifies becoming a chief, prevailing over the enemy, and strength.

Seeing oneself in one of the mansions of Paradise is a sign of marrying a beautiful woman and becoming a chief over people.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise with remembrance and glorification signifies entering Paradise by virtue of night prayer, glorification, and declaring God's oneness. Again, seeing oneself enter Paradise by the gate of al-Rayyan is a sign of entering Paradise by virtue of the fasts one has kept. Al-Nabulsi said: "What is drunk from the rivers of Paradise in a dream is taken into account in interpretation. Thus: seeing a river of water signifies provision; a river of milk, the original pure nature; a river of wine, the rapture that comes from the love of Allah and hating what Allah Most High has forbidden; and a river of honey, knowledge and the Noble Qur'an." Jabir al-Maghribi also said: "Whoever sees the Paradise of Ridwan in a dream and feels glad in his dream because of it will attain the utmost gladness, joy, and blessing. Again, seeing oneself in a high place and thinking that this place is Paradise signifies reaching a just sultan, a virtuous scholar, or a rich and generous man. Seeing in one's hand the key of the gate of Paradise is a sign of dying in Islam and in the belief in God's oneness."

Seeing oneself sit under the Tuba tree signifies that one's wish will be fulfilled in this world and the hereafter. Again, seeing oneself drink sherbet or milk in Paradise is interpreted as a scholar, a sage, and wealth. Again, seeing one of the trees of Paradise in a dream signifies a person who acts on his knowledge, a spiritual guide who guides people, and the houris.

Seeing oneself own the trees of Paradise or make something from those trees is a sign of children and women.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise but not eat of its fruit, not drink from its rivers, and not reach out to its blessings is a sign of being unable to benefit from the knowledge one has.

Seeing oneself driven out of Paradise signifies being afflicted with poverty, because of the story of his holiness Adam (peace be upon him), the first man and first prophet.

Seeing oneself walk around in Paradise signifies the breadth of one's provision, the exaltation of one's standing, and being safe from fears and dangers. Sometimes seeing oneself enter Paradise also signifies lawful wealth, doing good for one's family, and fearing Allah Most High. Again, entering Paradise signifies owning a vineyard and garden, obtaining useful and profitable things, and ample provision.

Seeing all the people enter Paradise is a sign of plenty and blessing in that year, of the justice of the head of state, and of blessing that will come to fruit, grain, and farming.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise with a book in one's hand signifies knowledge and good deeds.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise with wealth and walking animals, however, signifies attaining Paradise by virtue of paying the alms due on one's wealth.

Seeing oneself eat the fruit of the banana tree in Paradise and sit in its shade is a sign of obtaining the pearl of one's wish. Not knowing when one entered Paradise in a dream signifies attaining honor and blessing as long as one is in the world.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise smiling is a sign of remembering exalted Allah much.

Seeing oneself enter Paradise drawing one's sword from its sheath, however, signifies enjoining good and forbidding evil, blessing, and praise and acclaim.
