Classical interpretations
If a person sees a mountain in a dream, it signifies a sultan of exalted standing and renown. Again, if a person sees himself on a mountain praising Allah Most High by saying "Praise be to Allah," it signifies a just head of state. Again, whoever sees himself on top of a mountain will attain all his desires and wishes, and his standing will be exalted.
Seeing a mountain spread out, open up, and become round is a sign of a hard-hearted and difficult woman. Or it is a sign of sorrow and grief, and of the utmost limit of a person's aspiration.
Seeing trees on a mountain signifies office, elevation, being remembered with a good name among people, and fame. If a person sees himself prostrate or call the call to prayer on a mountain, it signifies, if he is qualified, that he will become a governor or be appointed to a high office.
Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing a mountain in a dream is interpreted in four ways: a) dominion and a sultan, b) victory, c) leadership, d) attaining ease. Daniel (peace be upon him) said: Seeing oneself on top of a mountain and thinking it one's own property signifies a person of high standing. If a person sees any of the mountains of Arafat, Judi, Uhud, or Sinai, it signifies that he will be in the service of scholars and the righteous.
Seeing a mountain walk along with oneself is interpreted as a war that is likely to break out. Again, seeing a mountain rise to the heavens and stand over people's heads signifies fear and violence that will engulf all people.
Seeing a mountain with no plants or water on it is interpreted as an unbelieving and rebellious king. If plants grow on the mountain and waters gush, then the dream signifies a devout head of state.
Seeing a mountain burn or fall signifies the death of an illustrious, lofty person who holds office, or that the sultan will overpower and crush that person.
Seeing oneself reach the middle of a mountain one is climbing and remain there, able neither to go down nor to climb up, signifies that one will die halfway through one's life. If a person sees a mountain come down from the sky upon a city, it signifies that a new governor will come to that city. His holiness Ibn Sirin said: Seeing oneself on top of a mountain is interpreted as rebelling against one's mother and father and as an approaching appointed time. His sitting on the mountain is his death. His being at the foot of the mountain signifies the length of his life and livelihood.
Seeing the mountains come alive and afterwards return to their former state signifies a severe fear that will come upon the people of that region. But Allah Most High will afterwards lift that fear from them. Sometimes the mountains and high hills seen in a dream signify severe sorrow, crying out and lamenting, anguish, and unemployment.
Imam al-Nabulsi said: "Seeing a mountain and seeing a mountain walk signifies violence and fear, and sometimes, for a traveller, drowning at sea. Seeing a mountain rise and become like a cloud in the sky is a sign of an event that will bring punishment."
Seeing oneself lean against a mountain signifies relying on a powerful king; seeing oneself sit in a mountain's shadow signifies taking refuge under a king's protection, and ease. Sometimes the mountains seen in a dream signify kings, commanders, the righteous, and scholars. Sometimes a mountain is a sign of a person who has both religion and worldly goods.
Seeing a mountain sink into the ground is a sign of the death of the governor of that place or of one of its great men. Kirmani said: Seeing oneself own a mountain signifies becoming the companion of a hard-hearted person of great standing.
Seeing oneself walk around a mountain is interpreted as attaching oneself to a great person.
Seeing oneself come up from a steep slope onto level ground signifies doing good and showing kindness to orphans and the sick. Sometimes a mountain is a sign of the harbor where ships anchor and wait; sometimes of a person in whom one takes refuge and under whose protection one comes, such as a master or a mother. Whoever sees himself enter a cave in a mountain will attain safety, stability, and dignity, and will trust in his Lord alone.
Seeing oneself come to a mountain by a smooth road signifies reaching one's aim and desire. Selimi said: Seeing a mountain in a dream is a sign of a great portion. Whoever sees himself climb a mountain will set out on a journey for profitable and gainful business. If a person sees himself worship on the grass of a mountain, it signifies the pleasure of Allah Almighty.
Seeing oneself perform ablution with water springing at the foot of a mountain and perform the prayer signifies being cleansed of sins and purity of heart.
