Classical interpretations
If a person sees a mosque in a dream, it is interpreted as goodness and blessing. For mosques are the sign and emblem of Islam and the houses of Allah.
Seeing oneself enter a mosque signifies carrying out the duties of religion properly, a judge who separates the lawful from the unlawful, and the market a person goes out to for trade. If a Muslim sees the city mosque in a dream, it signifies everyone he must obey, such as mother, father, teacher, and master.
Seeing the mihrab of a mosque is a sign of lawful provision and a righteous wife.
Seeing oneself enter a mosque as one who has been wronged signifies justice, the Qur'an and the sea, the bathhouse which is a place of cleansing, the grave which is a place of humility, pleasant scent, silence, and turning toward the qibla.
Seeing oneself build and restore a mosque, a masjid, or a madrasa signifies a scholar whom people will follow. His holiness Ibn Sirin said: Seeing oneself restore a mosque, a masjid, a madrasa, or another house of charity signifies succeeding in doing these things while awake. And the dreamer will do righteous deeds. If he is qualified, he will come to hold authority and influence. Again, seeing oneself add something to a mosque, a masjid, or a madrasa is a sign of attaining very much good in religion. Jabir al-Maghribi said: Seeing oneself build a masjid signifies marrying a devout and righteous woman.
Seeing oneself enter a mosque, a masjid, or a madrasa is also interpreted as piety and scrupulousness.
Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing a mosque in a dream is interpreted in these ways: a) the sultan and his office, b) the teachers of the madrasa, c) scholars and jurists, d) a woman of high standing.
Imam al-Nabulsi said: Seeing a mosque in a dream signifies a fortress built to protect against the enemy and to be safe from fear. The dome of the mosque is a sign of those close to the king and acquainted with his affairs. The pillars of the mosque are interpreted as the great men of the state and commanders.
Seeing the mihrab of the mosque signifies lawful provision, a righteous wife, and good in religion; its minaret signifies the vizier and the imam, and sometimes the minaret signifies the muezzin and the reciter of the Noble Qur'an. If a person sees the mosque burn and the wind blow the mosque away, it is a sign that the dreamer will be lost and that his property will change. The fountain around the mosque is for officers and soldiers just like barracks. The mosque of a city signifies the people of that city.
Seeing the mats and carpets of the mosque signifies the charitable people of the city and the congregation that gathers in the mosque for the worship of prayer.
Seeing the muezzin of the mosque is a sign of the judge of the city, and of its scholars who call the people to guidance and whose prayers are trusted. It has also been said that seeing the lamps of the mosque signifies the jurists of that age. The ceiling of the mosque, for its part, is the religious books consulted in giving judgment. In short, seeing a mosque in a dream is kindness, goodness, blessing, and grace.
Mosques are the houses of God, and God Most High is worshipped in them. Therefore seeing a mosque signifies good, blessing, knowledge, wisdom, honor, and dignity. A mosque may also signify scholars.
Seeing the doors of a mosque signifies male scholars and Qur'an memorizers. Building a mosque signifies adherence to the Sunnah, good, blessing, visiting relatives, and, for someone suited to it, becoming a judge.
Seeing one's own house turn into a mosque signifies righteous deeds, worship, honor, dignity, and elevation.
Seeing one's shop become a mosque, or a mosque become a shop, signifies abundant livelihood, lawful earnings, and benefit.
Seeing abandoned mosques signifies that scholars are negligent and deficient, failing to enjoin good and forbid evil. Repairing the eaves or roof of a mosque signifies helping the poor and orphans. Arriving at a mosque, finding it closed, and then seeing it opened for oneself signifies helping a debtor or distressed person and relieving him from hardship; the dreamer is praised by the people. Dying inside a mosque signifies dying after an accepted repentance.
Seeing the mosque's carpets old and worn signifies deterioration in the condition of its congregation.
Entering the Sacred Mosque signifies safety from fear and hardship and, for an unmarried person, marriage to a beautiful and righteous woman.
