Classical interpretations

Seeing clouds in a dream is interpreted as Islam, the life and salvation of all humanity. For because clouds carry water and rain, they are a means of the mercy of Allah, the Exalted and Generous. Unless the cloud weeps, the meadow does not laugh.

Seeing clouds also signifies knowledge, jurisprudence, wisdom, and understanding, because of the grace and wisdom contained in them.

Ibn Sirin said: Seeing oneself drive the clouds here and there across the sky during a dream signifies keeping company with scholars and sages.

Seeing oneself catch a cloud in the air and bring it down to the earth is a sign of acquiring knowledge and wisdom.

Seeing oneself in the shade of a cloud is a sign that the dreamer will attain much good, blessing, and bounty that year.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said: If a person sees his own shirt made of cloud, it signifies that the blessing of Allah Most High will envelop that person. If a person sees himself build a house on a cloud, it is a sign that he will attain blessing and wealth from lawful sources, together with wisdom and eminence.

Seeing oneself ride on a cloud signifies marrying a righteous woman. Or, if he has the wish and desire, he will travel or go on the pilgrimage. If he has no such wishes in his heart and is seeking knowledge, he will become renowned for knowledge and wisdom. Sometimes seeing clouds signifies ships sailing on the water. Some interpreters have said: Seeing clouds signifies a powerful king, a compassionate and merciful sultan, or a learned and wise person.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing clouds is interpreted as follows: a) wisdom, b) leadership, c) dominion, d) mercy, e) chastity, f) punishment, g) fortune, h) affliction and strife... Isma'il ibn al-Ash'ath, however, says: Seeing a frightening black cloud is a sign of hardship and necessity.

Seeing a rain cloud is good and low prices.

Seeing oneself take part of a cloud into one's hand signifies an increase in wealth and property. If a person sees a cloud come to meet him, it is a sign of justice, glad tidings, and deliverance from grief and sorrow.

Seeing a cloud fall from the sky to the earth signifies heavy rain and floods, and that land will be overrun by an enemy.

Seeing a cloud cover the sun signifies the death and downfall of the head of state. Kirmani said: Seeing oneself gather clouds, carry them, or speak with them signifies knowledge and wisdom, prosperity and happiness.

Seeing clouds before oneself but being unable to gather them is a sign of keeping company with scholars yet being unable to benefit from their knowledge.

Seeing oneself ride on a cloud is a sign of attaining high worth and standing in knowledge and wisdom.

Seeing one's child made of cloud signifies that one's whole world will be filled with knowledge and wisdom.

Seeing one's world become a cloud signifies working with wisdom and wonder. Interpreters have also said: Seeing clouds in their proper season is a sign of good, blessing, bounty, and wealth.

Seeing clouds in their season bringing rain is a sign of ample provision for the people of that city.

Seeing a red cloud out of season is a sign that hardship, illness, or strife will befall the people of that city or neighborhood. If a person sees a black cloud without rain, it is interpreted as blessing and benefit. Sometimes seeing clouds signifies cold or sadness.

Seeing a white cloud is interpreted as good deeds.

Seeing a cloud rise from the earth toward the sky signifies a journey. If someone living abroad sees this dream, it is a sign that he will return to his homeland.

Seeing a cloud come to meet one is a sign of good deeds, justice, rejoicing, and deliverance from every grief and sorrow into comfort. If a man of bad character who stirs up strife sees this dream, it is a sign of punishment that will reach him.

Seeing clouds also signifies the departure of distress, fear, grief, and sorrow, and the appearance of good and beautiful things. Sometimes seeing clouds, in light of the noble verse of Allah Most High "Have you not seen that Allah drives the clouds (wherever He wills). Then He brings them together." (Al 'Imran 161), signifies harmony and love. Some have also said: Seeing clouds signifies a powerful king, a compassionate and merciful sultan, or a scholar.
