Let us state at once that, as explained in the entries devoted to them, the interpretation of clothing seen in a dream changes with its color and kind and takes on a meaning accordingly. For example: seeing oneself wear woolen clothing is interpreted as asceticism. If a woman sees herself wearing men's clothing, it signifies good for her in religion and worldly life. If a man sees himself wearing women's clothing, sorrow, grief, intense fear, humiliation, and wretchedness will befall that person. That is, this dream is not good for him.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing oneself wash clothes with cold water is interpreted in four ways: a) repentance, b) well-being, c) deliverance from hardship, d) safety from fear..

Seeing oneself wash spotlessly clean clothes again signifies an increase in religion and piety.

Seeing oneself wearing red clothing is a sign of attaining much wealth. For women, seeing red clothing signifies relief and joy.

Seeing oneself wear a thin garment under one's clothes signifies that wealth one will save will come into one's hands. In a dream, green clothing is a sign of good and blessing in every respect. For this reason, seeing oneself wear green clothing is a sign of religion and worship.

Seeing the dead wear green clothing signifies that their state with Allah is good.

Wearing green clothing is also interpreted as inheritance.

Seeing oneself wear ironed black clothing without any white signifies awe and sovereignty. Whoever sees himself wear red clothing will also obtain much wealth in which there is a right owed to Allah. (The right owed to Allah is zakat. That is, he will obtain wealth on which zakat has not been paid.) Yellow clothing is interpreted in every respect as illness and weakness. Except, however, clothing made from the wool of the sea sheep.

Seeing oneself wear soft and very precious clothing signifies complete good for the rich and the poor alike.

Abu Sa'id al-Wa'iz said: Wearing new clothing signifies authority and high position, abundance and blessing for farmers, and joy and relief for a woman.

Wearing two torn and cut garments one on top of the other is a sign of the dreamer's death. Sorrow and grief will befall whoever sees himself wear torn clothing. If a person sees himself wear clothing patched in an ugly and bad way, it is interpreted as harm, loss, and unemployment.

Seeing the clothes on one's back taken off one's back is a sign that one will be dismissed from one's post.

Seeing oneself eat one's clothing signifies consuming one's wealth in the way the clothing is attributed.

Seeing oneself wear clothing embroidered in many colors signifies good and benefit for one who sells perfumes and one who sells drinks.

Seeing oneself wash one's own or another's clothing signifies warding off hardship that will arise in one's livelihood and the revealing of one's hidden states and affairs.

Seeing oneself wear women's clothing simply to resemble women signifies sorrow and grief that will come from the sultan. Or something will afflict him.

Seeing sky-blue clothing is also a sign of sorrow and grief.

Seeing oneself wear linen clothing signifies a good livelihood and lawful wealth. The interpretation of washing dirty clothing is the same. If a person sees himself eat new clothing, it is a sign of consuming lawful wealth, and eating dirty clothing is a sign of consuming unlawful wealth.

Seeing oneself not put on new clothes after washing signifies being unable to attain one's wish and desire.

Seeing the garment called a caftan signifies receiving help.

Seeing women's clothing on a man signifies sorrow and grief; seeing men's clothing on a woman signifies courage and goodness.

Seeing clothing signifies a good appointment or office, marriage for an unmarried person, and attainment of knowledge for a student.

A dream of tight clothing is interpreted as religious commands. That is: If a person sees himself inside a tight garment that squeezes him so that he cannot move, it signifies that he does not carry out religious commands.

Seeing some places of the tight garment one is wearing come apart at the seams is a sign of the pardon and forgiveness of sins.

Seeing a narrow and confining place in a dream is not a sign of good. But seeing oneself escape from a narrow place signifies deliverance from sorrow, grief, and hardships.
