Classical interpretations

Seeing oneself command people to pray, fast, recite the testimony of faith, or read the Qur'an signifies faith in Almighty God and fulfillment of His rights. Commanding evil signifies hypocrisy, sedition, and corruption in religion. Pouring away intoxicants, breaking musical instruments, and removing gambling equipment signifies faith, good deeds, sincerity, and truthfulness in religion.

Ibn Sirin says commanding and dominating others in an affair signifies jealousy toward one's brothers. Being ordered to sell wheat signifies lawful provision. Kirmani says commanding and forbidding in accordance with religious law is wholly good, while commanding what opposes it is not. Being commanded to do something good signifies goodness and blessing.
