Classical interpretations

Ibn Sirin said that seeing Mecca signifies pilgrimage and visiting that city. Traveling on the road to Mecca signifies going on pilgrimage, good and charitable deeds, asceticism and piety, and benefit in religion and worldly life.

Seeing the Kaaba, the House of God, signifies safety from fear, faith and Islam, soundness in religion, and being granted piety.

Seeing the noble Kaaba signifies healing and well-being for the sick, acceptance of prayer, and a good end.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said that seeing the Kaaba is interpreted in five ways: the caliph; a great imam; faith; Islam; and safety and security for believers. Rubbing one's face against the Black Stone or kissing it signifies attaching oneself to a person of knowledge and receiving spiritual benefit from him. Sometimes seeing Mecca signifies repentance, safety from fear and danger, victory over enemies, honor, and elevation.

Seeing Mecca in a ruined state signifies the disappearance of blessings, distress and need, grief, and sorrow. For a rebellious or sinful person, seeing Mecca signifies repentance; for an unbeliever, embracing Islam; and for an unmarried person, marriage.

Seeing oneself in Mecca together with the dead signifies settling there. Living as a resident near the holy sanctuary in Mecca signifies long life and reaching advanced old age.
