Classical interpretations

Holding only a spear signifies marriage for an unmarried person, children for a married person, and much goodness. Holding a spear together with another weapon signifies high rank.

Ja'far al-Sadiq interprets the spear through proof or evidence, authority, office, long life, victory, leadership, and benefit. Receiving a spear from a ruler or high official signifies goodness, benefit, and safety from what one fears.

Seeing a spear signifies authority and strength, because the spear is an old weapon of war. For a poor person, seeing a spear signifies wealth; for a wealthy person, it signifies an increase in property and fame.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said that a spear is interpreted in nine ways: strength; victory; travel; authority; wife; child; safety and security; weakness; and leadership. If the spear has no iron point, it signifies a strong and hard-natured child, a beneficial trade, or profitable earnings.

Seeing one's spear break signifies the death of a child or brother. Being on horseback with a spear in hand signifies honor and dignity.

Seeing the spear in one's hand break signifies a decrease in honor and standing. If someone strikes the dreamer with a spear and blood comes from the wound, it signifies bodily health and well-being and abundant property.
