Classical interpretations

Seeing oneself engage in jihad against an enemy signifies striving to provide sustenance for one's family, being praised with a good name, honor, and distinction. At times it signifies expanded provision. Going out for jihad signifies virtue, wealth, and attaining high ranks in the Hereafter.

Seeing many warriors set out for jihad signifies deliverance, victory, rank, honor, and strength for them. Al-Nabulsi says warfare signifies striving to provide for one's family and being praised with a good name. Fighting an enemy alone while brandishing a sword signifies victory and divine help.

Seeing oneself killed in the path of Allah signifies comfort, joy, and easy provision.

Seeing oneself in battle attacking the enemy signifies blessings and benefit. Fighting at sea signifies poverty, fear, and weakness. Being at the front armed for jihad signifies prayer, paying zakat, and diligence in religion.
