Bridge

Classical interpretations

A bridge in a dream signifies goodness and benevolence. Crossing a bridge signifies high rank, wealth and property, and the fulfillment of wishes and desires.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said that seeing a bridge or arch is interpreted in four ways: courage, sovereignty, goodness, and attainment of one's wish. A bridge may signify wealth, long life, and at times illness or breaking a covenant; it may also signify a ship or the Bridge of Sirat. Crossing a bridge and reaching a mosque signifies attaining one's aim on a journey, going on pilgrimage, restoring beneficial establishments such as inns and dervish lodges, and performing good deeds. A bridge may also signify a necessary and valuable person through whom people attain their affairs and needs. Based on the saying, 'The world is a bridge; cross over it, but do not build upon it,' a bridge may signify the world itself: everyone comes into this world and passes across its bridge to the other side. At times a bridge signifies a wife because of comfort and closeness, and the removal of sorrow, grief, and distress.

Riding upon a bridge signifies riding an animal. If the bridge is made of tiles, it signifies deterioration in the condition of the townspeople because of oppression.

Seeing oneself become a bridge over which people pass signifies sovereignty and power; people then become dependent upon that person, his reputation, and what he possesses. A bridge may also signify knowledge, the straight path, guidance, prayer, fasting, and anything that saves a person from the hardship of this world and from the fear and punishment of the Hereafter. It may also signify wealth, one's spouse, and one's parents. Crossing a bridge on horseback signifies attaining one's aims in this world and the Hereafter and gaining lawful, beneficial earnings.
