Market / marketplace

Imam al-Nabulsi says that a market or marketplace in a dream may signify a mosque, just as a mosque may signify a market. The source interprets markets through pilgrimage, striving in the path of God, humiliation, benefit, warfare, trial, livelihood, work, or stagnation. Buying and selling in a market may signify striving in God's path or a good and righteous deed. A crowded market in which everything sought is available signifies selling one's goods and making great profit.

Abu Sa'id al-Wa'iz says the market signifies the world, and whatever good or bad is seen there is related to the dreamer's worldly life. Bringing something to market but being unable to sell it may signify good or humiliation. Remembering God aloud in the market signifies enjoining good and forbidding evil. Markets and shops may signify benefits, provision, clothing, and recovery from illness. A booksellers' market signifies guidance, repentance, and struggle against evil; a jewelers' market, relief, adornment, spouse, children, and benefit; markets for olives, butter, and honey, the stirring of desires and recovery from illness; a pharmacists' market, joyful news, spouse, and children; a cloth market, honor, elevation, spouse, rank, and renewed provision; a money-changers' market, knowledge through prose and poetry, refinement of speech, and wealth after poverty; a coppersmiths' market, trouble and headache, but marriage for the unmarried and joy through children or servants; an arms market, dispute and victory over an enemy; a wool market, benefit, provision, and inherited wealth; a cotton market, increase of property, provision, and the emergence of truth from falsehood; a fish market, lawful provision and successive benefits and news; a butchers' market, a battlefield; a blacksmiths' market, evil, hardship, distress, and hostility, though sometimes provision and benefit; a silk market, honor, wealth, righteous deeds, and a good outcome; a candle-makers' market, repentance for sinners and guidance for those astray; a chest-makers' market, memory and understanding; a cooks' market, recovery from illness and fulfillment of needs; a tent-makers' market, travel and the market where shrouds are sold; a harvesters' or wool-shearers' market, sorrow and distress; a carpet market, sea travel; a saddlers' market, land travel; a fruit market, righteous deeds, knowledge, and children; a confectioners' market, Islam; and a jewelry market, continual remembrance of God and pursuit of knowledge. Al-Nabulsi also says that sleeping merchants, closed shops and inns, or spiderwebs over shops and goods signify trade stopping and affairs becoming difficult.

Entering a completely empty market where nothing is sold signifies deficiency in worship and laxity in religious commands.
