Classical interpretations
Seeing a mill in a dream signifies the household's deliverance from distress and hardship, their wealth after poverty, a wife for an unmarried man, a husband for an unmarried girl, and a servant in the house.
Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing a mill is interpreted in five ways: a) a sultan and commander, b) a vizier or one who acts in his place, c) strength, power, and authority, d) courage, e) a police officer.
Seeing the site of a mill also signifies a great leader and an influential commander.
Ibn Sirin said: Seeing a mill is a sign of enmity and killing. If it is not known whose property the mill is, the hostility and fighting will include all the people of that neighborhood.
Seeing a millstone turn empty, without wheat, signifies a journey; seeing it turn over wheat or other grain signifies that the general state of affairs will continue as it is. If a person sees a millstone turning, it is a sign of good that will come in proportion to the flour in the mill. Sometimes seeing a mill turn is interpreted as a journey, and its turning without wheat as hardship and distress.
Seeing a mill in a house that has no mill is a sign of hardship, difficulty, and enmity for that house.
Seeing wheat, barley, or something useful from which benefit is drawn being ground in a mill signifies ease in the household's affairs, the abundance of their provision, and their recovery from illness. If a person sees a large mill in the middle of a city or town or among mosques, it signifies a war that will break out if that city is in ruins.
Seeing a mill broken and out of order is a sign of release from sorrow and grief. For one who is in prison, it also signifies leaving the dungeon. If an unmarried man sees himself buy a mill, it is interpreted as marriage. If someone who has a daughter or son sees the same dream, he will marry off his son or daughter.
Seeing a windmill signifies an enmity that does not last. Kirmani said: Seeing a millstone made of iron or copper signifies severe enmity and fighting; seeing a millstone made of glass signifies enmity that will arise among people because of women.
Ibn Kathir also said: Seeing a windmill is interpreted as war and fighting. Whoever builds a windmill to grind the people's wheat will, if worthy, come to lead the people and rule over them.
Seeing the sails of a windmill painted and decorated signifies a good livelihood, reaching one's goal, and affairs going well. Isfahani said: Seeing a mill turned by water or by an animal signifies the coming of good and blessing and ease in livelihood.
Seeing oneself grind flour with a hand mill is a sign of attaining great good and of spending on the poor from what one earns by the labor of one's hands. If a person sees a mill grinding stones, it is a sign of fear and terror.
Seeing a mill turn without cause signifies that one's appointed time is drawing near.
