Classical interpretations

Seeing wind signifies low prices and abundance, victory and glad tidings, joy and relief. This interpretation applies when the wind blows gently and carries pleasant scents.

Ibn Sirin said: Seeing a violent wind blow signifies that a terrible fear will come upon the people of that place.

Seeing the wind lift a person from one place and carry that person elsewhere signifies sovereignty, honor, and power. At times, seeing wind is glad tidings from Allah Most High. Wind can also signify the ruler's dominion and army, helpers, officials, and news of the soldiers. The dream of wind also signifies low prices and abundance, victory and glad tidings. It is especially good and auspicious if the wind carries clouds laden with mercy, because such winds bring well-being to plants and trees.

Seeing a violent wind uproot trees, demolish walls, and carry away people, animals, or food signifies a very great calamity arising among the people, such as epidemic disease, civil strife, or captivity.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said that seeing wind is interpreted in nine ways: glad tidings; fulfillment of a command or affair; wealth; death; punishment; killing; illness; healing; and comfort.

Seeing a violent wind lift one from the ground toward the sky signifies that death is near; being carried into the air by the wind and then returning to the ground signifies becoming ill and later recovering.

Seeing the wind drag one along signifies a long journey and the attainment of elevation and benefit from that journey.

Seeing oneself ride the wind signifies high rank and a decisive command, and one's word will be obeyed by everyone.

Seeing a moderately blowing wind signifies goodness and blessing.

Seeing a strong and violent wind signifies the oppression of the head of state. If a head of state sees himself going to jihad and the wind driving him forward, it signifies victory in that war; if the wind blows against him, it signifies defeat before the enemy. It has been said that the saba winds signify mercy, while a violently blowing wind signifies calamity.

Seeing a wind blowing from the south signifies plague, illness, or death occurring in that place. At times, however, seeing this wind signifies rain and provision.

Seeing the saba wind signifies the departure of grief and sorrow, recovery from illness and afflictions, and news.

Seeing the wind uproot a date palm in a place signifies calamity and coercion that will come upon the people of that place from the head of state.

Seeing a hot desert wind signifies febrile illnesses; wind accompanied by thunder signifies an overpowering ruler with strength. It has been said: whoever sows the wind reaps the storm.
