Classical interpretations

Seeing a nightingale signifies a wealthy property owner or a cheerful wealthy woman. It may also signify a child who recites the Qur'an. More generally, it signifies a child or companion who speaks eloquently and has a beautiful voice and words. Having a nightingale in the house signifies possessing such a companion. Buying or receiving one as a gift signifies a good child and a loyal friend.

Eating nightingale meat signifies inheritance. A nightingale dying or flying away from the house signifies separation from a faithful friend or child.

Abu Sa'id al-Wa'iz likewise interprets it as a wealthy man, wealthy woman, or a child who has memorized the Qur'an.

Seeing a nightingale signifies a child who speaks eloquently, has a beautiful voice, and speaks well.

Seeing a nightingale in one's home signifies such a child or a friend who speaks beautifully.

Abu Sa'id al-Wa'iz said that seeing a nightingale is interpreted in four ways: a wealthy person, a wealthy and chaste woman, a memorizer of the Qur'an, and a righteous child.
