Classical interpretations

Seeing oneself shave the head signifies words spoken in order to obtain some benefit. Shaving the head signifies fulfilling a trust, attaining safety from fear, and spending one's wealth in the path of Allah. Shaving the head during pilgrimage signifies paying one's debt, safety from fear, and attaining conquest and victory.

Seeing one's head shaved signifies victory over an enemy and attaining honor and strength.

Seeing oneself cut something from one's paternal uncle's beard and eat it signifies inheritance and wealth in proportion to what was eaten.

Seeing one's wife's braided hair cut signifies that she will never bear a child, because hair is a woman's adornment.

Taking one's beard in the palm and cutting what extends beyond it signifies paying the zakat on one's wealth. Shaving or cutting the moustache signifies goodness and benefit. If a woman sees her head completely shaved, it signifies her own death or her husband's death, or the disclosure of a hidden defect. Shaving the hair of the abdomen signifies that Allah Most High will grant something by which one can pay one's debt.

Seeing both the head and beard completely shaved signifies deliverance from illness if sick, from debt if indebted, and from sorrow and grief if distressed.
