If a man sees a pearl necklace around his neck and is learning the Qur'an, it signifies memorizing the Qur'an. If he has made a promise, it signifies fulfilling it. If he is unmarried, it signifies marriage to a woman who recites the Qur'an beautifully. Strings of pearls may also signify the Sunnah of the Prophet, while other precious strings signify wisdom, truthful speech, and knowledge of jurisprudence.
