Rooster

Classical interpretations

Dream interpreters have interpreted the rooster as the man and master of the household, while the hen represents the woman of the house.

Seeing a rooster signifies a muezzin, an orator, or someone who recites beautifully. At times, it signifies a person who commands good without doing it himself, because the rooster reminds people of prayer times but does not itself pray. Owning a rooster signifies a male child, and a son is born to the dreamer. A rooster also signifies a generous man who prefers for himself what he needs. Small roosters signify young servants, children, or offspring. Kirmani said that a rooster is interpreted as a child or servant.

Seeing a rooster attack the dreamer signifies sorrow caused by an enemy. A white rooster signifies a righteous and trustworthy servant. Holding and embracing a rooster signifies friendship with a person of lofty rank and high aspiration.

Seeing many hens signifies becoming leader or commander over a group. Chicken meat and feathers signify wealth, blessing, provision, and benefit.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said that a black hen is interpreted in four ways: a righteous and devout wife, a hardworking man, a faithful companion on the path of goodness, and a servant loyal and obedient to his master. He also said that seeing a hen is interpreted in three ways: a beautiful wife, a beautiful female servant, and a faithful servant.

Hearing a rooster crow signifies good and joyful news, because roosters usually crow around the time of the dawn call to prayer.

Seeing a rooster enter one's house and gather up the barley there signifies that something belonging to the muezzin will be stolen.
