Classical interpretations

The neck is the place of trusts and responsibilities.

Seeing it thick signifies fulfilling one's duty and trust properly; seeing it thin signifies injustice. A snake coiled around the neck signifies failure to pay zakat. Jewels, pearls, or diamonds around the neck signify knowledge, virtue, and fulfilling what is right.

Ja'far al-Sadiq interprets a long neck as the outcome of affairs, justice, authority, or the call to prayer.

Ibn Sirin says the neck and nape may signify a faithful friend, trustworthy companion, or hired servant. A neck sunk short between the shoulders signifies poor outcomes, weakness, and laziness.

Seeing one's neck in the Prophet's blessed hand signifies being restrained from taking on something harmful. Carrying the Qur'an on the neck signifies truthfulness. Carrying goods on the neck and nape signifies debt, with size and weight corresponding to the debt. Carrying gold or silver on the nape signifies bearing the burdens of the world.

Being Beheaded

Seeing one's neck struck and the head separated from the body signifies release from worry, debt, trouble, and sorrow. It may also signify receiving great wealth and bounty. At times it signifies committing a sin and serves as a warning to return to God and repent.
