Anointing oneself
Classical interpretations
Seeing oneself anoint and rub the body with oil signifies attaining a good reputation among the people. Rubbing the body with a pleasant fragrance extracted from herbs and flowers is interpreted in the same way. If laborers and workers who earn their livelihood by their own sweat see themselves rubbing their bodies with oil, it signifies comfort, renewed provision, and increased strength. Rubbing the body with foul-smelling oil signifies being known by a bad name among the people.
