Sowing crops in a field signifies a wife's pregnancy for a married person and marriage for an unmarried person. Sowing another person's field signifies a dispute or enmity with the owner. Crops burning signifies hunger and famine. Walking among green crops signifies good deeds, worship, and obedience. Sowing a field also signifies benefit and blessing; green crops signify long life, while dry crops signify approaching death. Sowing wheat signifies multiplied reward or wages; barley signifies good. Sowing where crops should not be planted signifies sin and loss, while reaping out of season signifies death and calamity in that place. Al-Nabulsi compares a field to a battlefield, its ears to soldiers and its harvest to swords; he also says the field may signify the world, the people, mosques, circles of remembrance, charity, and every place where deeds are sown for the hereafter.
