Abu Sa'id al-Wa'iz says seeing enmity between oneself and another person signifies friendship and affection with that person. Being hostile to the enemies of God signifies faith; loving and befriending them signifies turning away from God's Book and the Prophet's Sunnah. Openly declaring enmity toward another person likewise signifies friendship. Enmity may also signify revealing hidden matters. Being at enmity with a great person signifies joy of heart and strength of support.
