Kirmani says a nail signifies patience and steadfastness in matters of religion and worldly honor. A nail may signify an army, soldiers, helpers, or a known amount of money; it may also signify a commander or ruler, or a person who serves as a means for people to attain their affairs. For the unmarried it can signify marriage. An unmarried man driving a nail signifies that he will soon marry. Many nails together signify strength and benefit. A nail may also signify the calming of anger, or people who associate with a corrupt group.
Ja'far al-Sadiq interprets the nail through a brother, a child, a loyal friend, or marriage.
