Lighting a fire for warmth signifies sovereignty, and fire may itself signify the ruler. Striking flint signifies marriage for an unmarried person; the fire appearing signifies the wife's pregnancy and a child to be born from it. At times striking flint signifies conflict between husband and wife or between two partners. If a woman strikes flint and kindles a bright flame, it signifies a male child. Striking stones together and seeing sparks signifies a violent quarrel between two hard-hearted people. If fire from the flint burns clothing or the body, it signifies harm to wealth, honor, or body in that household. If the fire ignites the Qur'an, it signifies an event against religion.
Seeing flint may also signify successive sorrow and distress, or upsetting news arriving from afar.
