Zakat

Classical interpretations

Seeing oneself pay the zakat due on one's property signifies increase, purification, and growth of the wealth in hand. Paying the obligatory zakat signifies attaining blessing, performing obligatory duties, praying at their prescribed times, and righteousness in religion, for the Qur'an says, "Establish prayer and give zakat." Setting aside the zakat of one's wealth and placing it somewhere signifies that Allah Most High will make one's affairs easy and signifies repentance. Giving zakat signifies benefit, comfort and joy, elevation in rank, and the repelling of calamities.

Seeing oneself give the alms of breaking the fast signifies prayer, declaring divine unity and glorification, repayment of debt, and freedom from illness. Giving zakat also signifies glad tidings, goodness, abundance and healing, difficult matters becoming easy, deliverance from sorrow and distress, victory over an enemy, and abundant provision.
