Classical interpretations

Seeing a male turtledove signifies a person who recites odes with a beautiful voice and mode. The turtledove is interpreted similarly to the pigeon.

Seeing a turtledove land on one's head, shoulder, or nape signifies the dreamer's deeds: if it is white and beautiful, it signifies good deeds; if black and ugly, bad deeds.

Seeing a turtledove also signifies attaining good and pleasant things. If the dreamer has someone away from home, that person returns; if the dreamer is sorrowful, he is relieved of sorrow and grief. A male turtledove signifies that a pregnant woman will bear a son, while a female turtledove signifies a daughter. Sometimes a male turtledove signifies a stranger of low and humble condition, and it may also signify news or a messenger. For an unmarried person, seeing a turtledove signifies marriage to a talkative woman.

Ibn Sirin said that seeing an üveyk bird signifies a woman of bad character, deficient religion, and poor relations with people. Catching such a bird or being given one signifies, for an unmarried person, marriage to such a woman.

Eating its meat signifies provision and wealth.

Ja'far al-Sadiq said: Seeing a turtledove in a dream is interpreted in three ways: a wife, a child, and a servant.

Seeing a turtledove is also interpreted as a lying child. Therefore, being given a turtledove or catching one signifies that the dreamer will have a child who lies.

Ibn Sirin said: Seeing a turtledove signifies a woman of bad character, deficient religion, and one who does not submit to people. Whoever sees himself catch a turtledove or be given one will marry such a woman.

Seeing a turtledove enter one's house signifies a thief who will enter the house.
