Basmala
Classical interpretations
Seeing the basmala written in beautiful calligraphy in a dream signifies knowledge, guidance, and abundant provision through the blessing of the basmala.
Imam al-Nabulsi said: "Seeing oneself write the basmala in beautiful script signifies provision and having a share in knowledge and craft; seeing a dead person write it signifies that the dead person is in the mercy of Allah. Sometimes writing the basmala is profit and blessing in farming. The same holds for the Qur'an and anything else written beginning with the basmala."
Seeing oneself recite the basmala again and again signifies acceptance before Allah and happiness and safety in this world and the hereafter. If a person sees himself, after writing the basmala, erase what he wrote, or sees a bird snatch the basmala from where it is written and fly away, it signifies the end of one's provision and the nearness of one's appointed time.
Seeing oneself write a verse or part of a verse of the Book of Allah, the Qur'an, on one's hands and then erase what one wrote is also a sign of one's appointed time. Let us give an example of this: One night Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) saw in his dream that Surah al-Duha was written on his forehead. He told this dream to Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib. Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib interpreted it as follows: O son of the Messenger of Allah, make your will and ask forgiveness. For your appointed time has come. Indeed, one day after this dream Hasan died of poisoning. This does not mean that everyone's dream comes true at once. For a dream to be true, one must stay away from sins and be obedient to the command of the Truth.
Seeing oneself write the basmala with an iron pen is a sign of strength, provision, and steadfastness in one's work. If someone whose eye aches sees the basmala, it signifies that the ailment in his eye will be healed.
Seeing oneself write the basmala on paper signifies doing a good deed that is beautiful and richly rewarded; writing it on thin leather signifies pursuing an inheritance; writing it on red, yellow, or white cloth signifies attaining relief and joy; writing it on green cloth signifies dying as a martyr in the way of Allah. Writing the basmala with light or with gold on these things or on anything else is a sign of glad tidings and happiness.
Seeing oneself take from somewhere a plaque with the basmala written on it signifies being protected at every moment of life, and relief and joy.
